Professional Siding installation of Engineered for protection, performance, and long-term curb appeal

Why Siding Installation Matters..n

Avenir Light is a clean and stylish font favored by designers. It's easy on the eyes and a great go-to font for titles, paragraphs & more.

Your siding protects what matters most.

But protection depends on precision.

At NR General Construction, we focus not only on the material selected, vinyl, fiber cement, or architectural profiles, but on how it is installed. Surface preparation, moisture management, fastening accuracy, and trim integration all determine long-term performance.

When properly installed, siding becomes:

  • A moisture-control layer

  • A wind-resistance barrier

  • A structural preservation system

  • A long-term exterior investment

Below, we explain the main siding systems available and how each one performs, so you understand exactly what protects your home and why it matters.

Types of Siding

Vinyl Siding Types

Vinyl

Vinyl siding remains one of the most efficient exterior cladding systems available today.

It offers long-term weather resistance, consistent color retention, and low maintenance requirements compared to traditional wood-based materials.

Because it does not require painting and resists moisture absorption, it reduces long-term upkeep while maintaining a clean exterior appearance.

When properly installed over a protected surface, vinyl siding provides:

  •  Reliable water management

  •  Controlled expansion performance

  •  Durable panel integrity

  •  Cost-effective exterior renewal

For many homeowners, it delivers the right balance between protection, appearance, and investment value.

How Vinyl Siding Is Properly Installed

Vinyl siding is not simply attached to a wall.

It is installed as part of a layered exterior protection system. A standard installation includes:

  • Structural sheathing (existing plywood or OSB)

  • Weather-resistant barrier (house wrap)

  • Proper flashing at openings and transitions

  • Starter strip and level base alignment

  • Interlocking vinyl panels installed with controlled expansion spacing

Each panel locks into the one below it, creating a continuous cladding system that allows movement while maintaining weather protection

Installation Over Existing Claddings

In some cases, vinyl siding can be installed over an existing nailable surface, such as:

  • Plywood

  • OSB

  • Structurally sound wood-based panels

If the existing surface is secure and moisture-free, a weather barrier can be installed before applying the new siding system. However, materials such as damaged cedar shakes, deteriorated boards, or unstable substrates must be removed to ensure proper fastening and long-term performance.

Fiber Cement

Fiber cement siding is recognized for its structural durability, dimensional stability, and resistance to moisture-related deterioration.

Unlike traditional wood-based materials, it resists rot, pests, and warping while maintaining a solid, architectural appearance.

Because it is engineered for long-term exterior performance, fiber cement performs exceptionally well in high-humidity and high-impact environments.

When properly installed and sealed, it provides:

  • Superior moisture resistance

  • Increased impact durability

  • Enhanced fire resistance

  • Long-term structural stability

For homeowners seeking a more substantial exterior system with a refined finish, fiber cement offers strength, performance, and architectural presence.

How Fiber Cement (Hardie Plank) Siding Is Properly Installed

Fiber cement siding is not simply fastened to a wall. It is installed as a reinforced exterior cladding system designed for durability and long-term structural performance. A standard installation includes:

  • Structural sheathing (existing plywood or OSB in sound condition)

  • Weather-resistant barrier (house wrap or approved moisture barrier)

  • Proper flashing at all windows, doors, and penetrations

  • Starter strip or base alignment system

  • Corrosion-resistant fasteners (manufacturer-approved)

  • Correct spacing and clearance from grade and roofing surfaces

  • Protected cut edges

Unlike lightweight cladding systems, fiber cement panels require precise fastening patterns and expansion clearances to prevent stress cracking and ensure long-term stability. When properly installed, Hardie Plank siding provides enhanced structural presence, impact resistance, and durable weather protection.
